Disability Fast-Track:
100% Disabled Veterans Get High Priority from the Social Security Administration
Applying for Social Security Disability benefits can be a long and drawn out process ― unless you are a 100% disabled veteran.
In that case, you get high priority.
In March 2014, the Social Security Administration (SSA) launched a new initiative and began fast-tracking paperwork for veterans who have been deemed 100% disabled by the U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs (VA). Under the new guidelines, the SSA expedites disability applications from fully disabled veterans, putting them at the front of the line and alleviating a bureaucratic nightmare that can sometimes last for years.
The new initiative was designed to repay military men and women who sacrificed for our country and are now suffering from severe mental and physical conditions, including PTSD, COPD, and traumatic brain injuries. The move cut months off the wait time for disabled veterans ― many of whom have already endured long wait times for the VA to process their compensation claim.
To receive expedited service from the Social Security Administration, veterans must inform the SSA that they have a 100% Permanent and Total (P&T) disability rating and show proof with a copy of their VA Notification Letter.
One thing to keep in mind: Social Security Disability benefits are not guaranteed.
The 100% VA rating only speeds up the process. It’s doesn’t guarantee approval. Veterans must still meet the SSA’s strict guidelines to qualify for Disability benefits.
